We found this place on our way to Raleigh, NC from Chicago. Stopped here after reading reviews online. TRUST THE REVIEWS that say this place is good...IT IS GOOD! We just moved to the Chicago area from South Texas, so we know good Mexican food and this place does not disappoint! If you are anywhere near Gary Indiana, you have to stop in to Chela's. It's not fancy at all, but is very clean and the prices are good. We had the Birria Tacos, chips and salsa and several different meat tacos. Then, on our way back from North Carolina, we stopped in again! My fiance thinks this is the best Mexican food outside of Texas. THAT'S saying something! We can't wait to go back!
Made a short trip to Gary, IN a few weeks back for two days with a friend. I'm from the Southwest and Mexican food is the best here, you'd never think to find good Mexican food in Indiana but if you pass this spot, you need to stop... Excellent is the best way to describe everything about this place.

Dont let the outside scare you away. This small family run business was nice on the inside. The street tacos and rice were delicious and generous in portion. The owner and family were very gracious and friendly. This is my new go to for street tacos. Can't wait to try their other offerings.
